Webinar: Maximising the benefit of fine needle aspiration in head and neck – specimen management and the role of Rapid OnSite Evaluation - Part 3
Monday 17 January, 12:30-13:30 (GMT) –Webinar 3/3
Led by Dr Anthony Maddox, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Mrs Leonie Wheeldon, Royal Cornwall NHS Trust

Rapid OnSite Evaluation (ROSE) involves the assessment of aspirated material by rapid staining at the time of aspiration by a small team which may involve a biomedical scientist (BMS), a cellular pathologist or both. Due to resource constraints, it is likely that most potential services will be BMS-based. ROSE allows for the assessment of adequacy and the triage of material into appropriate media for ancillary tests and has been shown to improve service delivery with fewer repeat patient attendances.

Some services are already operating (and some have been for many years) but provision is historical and patchy. Some local training with collaboration of cellular pathology and radiology has taken place (eg in Peninsula school) but a national programme with incorporation into radiology and BMS training would be beneficial. This series of webinar session is a first step in the potential for such a programme.
